Video for song ‘Mystery’
17th September 2009Here is the video of the verses we used last Sunday morning in the middle of the new song Mystery (discussed in the last blog). We had done the song as a performance up to this point where there is a short musical interlude. I was about to invite everyone to join us in singing 'Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again' as we built towards the crescendo at the end of the song, but I wanted people to have a chance to reflect on some scriptures on these three great truths of the gospel before they joined us to sing.
The music itself is very stirring towards the end of this song, but I wanted people's hearts to be sitrred ulitmately by the unchanging truths of the scriptures. If that happens, then music performs its God-given function as a gift to help evoke and express our emotional response to the truths of the gospel. It's a means to the end, not the end in itself. The following verses appeared as Grace, Rachael and Emma sang the bridge - I can't play the piano line you'll hear and sing at the same time - typcial man, unable to multitask!Alistair Hamill
