i. The challenge to understand the idols of our hearts

iii. Identifying our idols part 2 ii. Identifying our idols part 1 |
Every once in a while I'll come across a sermon that invites me to reassess some fundamental assumptions I've made in life. I've had just such an experience this week with last Sunday's sermon by Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church, Seattle on the topic of worship. Mark comes at this issue in a fresh and compelling manner, explaining what worship is and how easily and frequently we fall short of what God demands on us in worship. He skillfully and ruthlessly exposes the idols we worship in place of God, but he exposes to restore, not to condemn. He finishes with some great practical advice on how we may more readily place the worship of God as the foundational value in our lives.
I've included a 7 minute sermon clip of Driscoll's definition of worship as a taster to encourage you to listen to the enitre sermon. You'll find the whole sermon at the Mars Hill website as part of the Doctrine series. In addition, you'll find useful notes that will help you reflect on the issues raised at Driscoll's blog.
I strongly recommend that you invest the time to listen to or watch this sermon and, ideally, that you prayerfully reflect on the challenges it's sure to bring to your heart.
